This bandana is decorated with the bonsai tree, something that has been a familiar and cultural element in Japan since the Heian period (794-1185). The five-leaf pine tree in the center is considered a tree of good omen and means 'wait for your duty', and 'may good work come to you'. This is all is derived from a wordplay on the Japanese word “goyomatsu,” meaning 'wait for your duty.'
Surrounding the tree is a bonsai full of cherry blossoms, a symbol of Japan and one with which all in Japan are very familiar. This is a highly versatile item that can be used as a bandana, scarf, or furoshiki.
